Delete Your Vented Account
You can delete your account and its data yourself, at any time, in the app or on the website. Deleting is permanent.
How to delete it yourself
- Sign in to Vented (the iPhone or Android app, or ventedapp.com).
- Tap your profile picture (top right) and choose Profile Settings.
- Scroll to the Danger Zone section and tap Delete Account.
- Type DELETE to confirm. Your account is removed straight away.
What is deleted
- Your account: name, email address, phone number, city and state, date of birth, username, profile picture and bio.
- Everything you posted: vents, comments and replies, polls, Live stories, and your Silent Screams entries.
- Photos and videos you uploaded.
- Your likes, reposts, follows, blocks, tags, notifications and Groups.
- Your push-notification device tokens and your saved sign-up record (the restricted record of your name, email, phone and location).
What is kept, and for how long
- Evidence of child sexual abuse material. If content on Vented is identified as apparent child sexual abuse material, federal law requires us to report it to NCMEC and preserve the related evidence, including identifying details about the account, for up to 400 days, in a separate, access-restricted store, even after you delete your account. It is then permanently deleted. This is the only data that survives deletion.
- Backups. Copies in our disaster-recovery backups are removed within 30 days.
- Messages you sent to support stay in our support inbox only as long as needed to answer them.
- Failed-login records (stored only as scrambled values) are deleted automatically after 24 hours.
If you can't open the app
Email us from the address on your Vented account at ventedtruth@gmail.com with the subject “Delete my Vented account”. We will confirm it is you by replying to that address, then delete your account and tell you when it is done. Because Vented is anonymous, please include your username so we can find the right account.
